District 1 - OH
Congressman Steve Chabot
State Representative Steve Driehaus
Energy:
The differences between the two candidates could not be sharper. Congressman Chabot supports the all of the above program which means America should increase deep sea drilling, bio fuels, conversation, nuclear, wind and solar energy, natural gas and oil shale exploration.
Representative Driehaus has been very quite on his energy policy but boasts about his endorsement from the League of Conservation Voters. The League opposes any additional drilling, opposes increasing nuclear power and opposes oil shale exploration.
State Children's Health Insurance Plan (Schip):
Representative Driehaus supports the liberal backed bill vetoed by President Bush. The bill included health insurance for adults in addition to children. It also covered children of illegal immigrants. It also made deep cuts to the Medicare Advantage program, very popular with many senior citizens.
Congressman Chabot supported an amendment to the bill (defeated 202-226) that would have restored cuts to seniors' Medicare Advantage, prevented illegals from receiving federally-financed health care, eliminated the liberals' tax on private health insurance accounts, and ensured "children first" in the State Children's Health Insurance Program, among other health-related issues.
Labor Unions:
State Representative Driehaus has been endorsed by the AFL-CIO which strongly supports eliminating the secret ballot for organizing elections. Like elections for public office, Congressman Chabot voted to keep the secret ballot for organizing elections.
