Power Politics is the use of force against the unwilling to get what the wielders want. The Left has had quite a year as legislation has been passed that the unwilling voter doesn?t want. The Left has worked hard to fight legislation in DC and in places such as Arizona to quash what the voters do want. The Left believes they are filling a void and once the voters get used to their expansion of power, the lessening of life for individuals and the progressive influence on government that the voter will just grow tired and accept the changes. In this year that will probably not happen because voters are finding out that progressive is regressive and has real, and unacceptable, impact of their lives and finances. The voter has also grown tired of those politicians who take their re-election for granted as if they have already earned the office. Republicans and conservatives will do well to learn from their past mistakes and the current debacle being played out in DC. The time for change is now, because delusion is not a strategy, it is tragedy.
California-based group, National Popular Vote (NPV), hopes state legislatures will sign an interstate compact to enact a new method of allocating presidential electors, i.e. the Electoral College. The states currently allocate electors, but NPV wants states to give their electors to the winner of the national popular vote. This idea has been approved in five states, is currently being considered in three others and three other state legislatures approved the legislation, but not gubernatorial approval. The National Popular Vote Interstate Compact signals intent to undermine the protection to all states that of our founders intended and to alter the structure of elections in the future. The is an obvious intent to alter elections to an even more progressive form of government, but there are 3 reasons that this compact is wrong for America. First, individual state presidential winners would cease to count as those states electoral vote would go to the national vote winner: second, the compact would encourage the end of the two party system encouraging a coalition form of governance and third, smaller states or those with small populations would be at the mercy of more populated areas such as New York and California. A parallel to this balanced vision is that the number of each state?s representatives is based on population, but each state, large and small, has two senators. This compact is nothing more than an effort to reduce any influence more conservative state populations might have on the national stage and to negate the will of the sea of red counties and states nationwide. It will be a long time before people will forget the signs held voters on the losing side which said that conservative voters should do something sexually impossible to themselves. States should just say no to the NPV Compact.
Our Republic was founded on a balance of what our founders believed were the three branches of power in government. That balance was based on the law, but it was also based on integrity, ethics, religion and a shared vision of America. That America, some Americans and our leaders have shied away from our ideals is obvious in the decline of our dream and their constant and increasing willingness to speed that decline. When facing the greatest army and the most formidable power in the world our founding leaders rallied to Give me liberty or give me death. In today?s America we have cabinet officials such a Janet Napotilano who instead of facing the daunting task of securing our borders rally to thoughts of You?re never going to totally seal it denoting that we needn?t bother with that task. Our founders faced breakdowns in the federal system with resolve for the good of the nation, such as the breakdown of local leadership during the Whiskey Rebellion. They dealt with it with appropriate force and determination. Currently, local leaders across our Republic are blatantly refusing to enforce immigration laws while also declaring that the law of the land will be not just ignored, but through local governmental means it will be thwarted. The common thread in these breakdowns is modern Liberalism that wants to be all things to all people. Our Republic is not a melodrama of teenage angst in which the players cry out that they just can?t do enough when in reality they have rendered themselves incapable of doing anything. It?s a Helluva a way to run a country.
The federal government has ordered Louisiana to stop their efforts to stop oil reaching their shore. Never mind that the Obama Administration has completely bungled their response to the Gulf oil spill and put aside for a minute that this administration has raked in huge amounts of political money from the corporation at the center of this disaster. This disaster is being called the worst ecological disaster in our history. The worst ecological disaster, yes. The worst disaster? No. That disaster would be the destruction of the constitution in general and specifically, the abandonment of the 10th Amendment otherwise known as states? rights. Who gave the federal government the right to prevent states from protecting themselves? If a state needs to protect itself they have the right, under the Constitution, to do so. Period. This is not an isolated incident. All one has to do is look at Arizona and their efforts to stop illegal aliens, criminals and drug smugglers from flooding their border. The federal government plans to sue them for their self protection efforts and we must presume they will sue Louisiana as well. In both cases the state has had to step up and do the federal government?s job. In one case they are incapable and in the other they are unwilling and both cases come down to shameful politics. Money and votes.
Sweet home Chicago. The headline read, ?Ten dead among 54 shot across city over weekend.? We all know the saying, ?when guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns,? and it is a true statement. The Second Amendment was established for protection of the country, states, towns, homes and individual lives. That the Founding Fathers dealt harshly with violent criminals was in indicator of their belief in the sanctity of the individual, the nation and society. Where laws have increased personal ownership of weapons, such as conceal carry crime has decreased, but the increase of ownership is among law abiding citizens. Chicago bans weapons, but has increased crime and increased ownership among the criminal class which forms the basis of their problem with shootings. They should drop such bans and increase harsher penalties on those that commit crimes with guns.
Rep. Carol Shea-Porter (D-NH) liked to show up at the meetings of her Republican rival, Representative Jeb Bradley, when she was running against him. Now she is running again, away from her constituents. Those Congressmen that voted for such liberal nightmares such as Cap and Trade and Health Care Reform are stiff-arming their constituents in a bid to avoid a replay of past town hall meeting where angry voters asked who they were representing. That these Congressmen are also not doing their duty is that they are scared and hope that voters will forget and become complacent. In a Republic such as ours, the only one like it, it is reprehensible that one legislation that the voters abhor is passed against their will, but it more reprehensible when those that thwart the will of the people shun them, ignore them and rebuke them for their opinions. Cowards have no place in a Republic, especially in positions of leadership and power. Each Congressman that hides from their constituents should be thrown from office in the next election. Conservatives that act in this manner should be thrown out immediately.
President Obama and his administration only never stop campaigning; they encourage others to do so on their behalf. It was in this atmosphere that Sir Paul McCartney, who never attended an institution of higher education, quipped, "After the last eight years, it's great to have a president who knows what a library is," as a slap at President George W. Bush. It is reported that President Obama and the audience found McCartney?s quip quite humorous. President Bush?s MBA from Harvard was a first for the office of the Presidency who also graduated Yale University and, indeed, has his own presidential library. That McCartney, a guest here in the United States receiving the Gershwin Award, cannot begin to match either President Obama nor President Bush in education is not only painfully obvious, but his common rudeness shows that he, Sir McCartney, had yet a lot to learn himself. That President Obama and the audience found the remark humorous speaks to their attitude of self elitism that Minority Leader John Boehner addressed well, "Like millions of other Americans, I have always had a good impression of Paul McCartney and thought of him as a classy guy, but I was surprised and disappointed by the lack of grace and respect he displayed at the White House," the Ohio Republican said "I hope he'll apologize to the American people for his conduct which demeaned him, the White House and President Obama." Sir McCartney did demean more than our Presidents, he demeaned himself and our symbol of our leader living in our house, the White House. Our President and his royal friend did manage to join with the invitation only audience for a rousing rendition of ?Hey Jude?, reportedly a song about drugs, but here at MA we usually have homegrown music playing such as Stevie Ray Vaughn or in a show of respect for our English guests we play The Clash?s ?London Calling.?
The ?peace? flotilla headed for Gaza is just the latest attack on freedom in the Middle East. That Israeli forces were going to board and escort the flotilla was never in question by all the participants. Using this knowledge as the baseline it becomes obvious what the incident is really all about is the information or marketing war on Israel. Israel is losing this war which means freedom is losing. When 189 countries in the UN vote to condemn Israel for its soldiers defending themselves in what was a preplanned, it is apparent that that Muslim countries bent on destroying Israel are winning and Israel and freedom are losing. That people died, which was part of the plan, was not important to, in this case, Turkey, but actually a bonus. To Arabs, dying is not important because some Israelis will also die, but what is important is that each planned incident inflates the Arab victim status which is a large part of the anti-Israel strategy. We are seeing this strategy work in cities across the United States of America in our own press. That is wrong because freedom is right and our press and most Muslim countries hate freedom.
You know the drill, what did he know and when did he know it? Lawbreaking has no party label and the Obama Administration is once again proving that statement. Pennsylvania's Sestak was offered a job not to run for the US Senate against Arlen Specter. If Sestak was offered a job for political reasons, that is a crime. Sestak says "the administration offered" the job. He did not say former President Clinton, but Clinton says he was the middle man. Who initiated the offer? President Obama? We don't know. Yet. Those in office that love this Republic should make cleaning up government corruptions Job 1. Even if it includes the President of the United States and members of his administration. It would be ironic that Clinton got to keep his job after being proven a liar while under oath and Obama, a Clinton enemy, is brought low by being helped by the former President.
It happens every time. Government tries to fix the economic problems of the nation through interference, higher taxes and the heavy hand of regulations and controls. It has never worked and it never will. Presidents John F. Kennedy and Ronald Reagan both understood this and they cut taxes and cut regulations and the economy improved. What both failed to do was to cut the size of government though Reagan did slow the growth. Our current administration is using the FDR model on steroids by huge growths in the size and scope of government and higher taxes on everything and everyone that works. This vision of government will not work. Look to Sweden, Greece and Spain as they move away from this vision of the everything to everyone government. Also, this administration?s vision of government is un-American in that our founding fathers would abhor virtually every pronouncement and program currently being put forth. If America is to heal itself, America must return to limited government and limited taxation to unleash the unlimited vitality of individuals.
